Bansko hosts Jazz Festival

For the ninth consecutive year Bulgaria’s Bansko winter resort would host an international jazz festival.
The event would take place from August 8 to 13. Musicians from 10 countries would get the chance to perform, avtora.com reported.
This year, the opening ceremony of the festival would start with a Salsa Night, featuring various Bulgarian performers.
During the next five days, the festival would feature the big band of Belgrade’s radio, a gypsy trio, Polish performers and the most popular Cuban vocal quartet Sexto Sentido, avtora.com reported.
Bulgarian jazz performers Kamelia Todorova, Kalin Veliov, Hristo Yotsov and Misho Yosifov would also present their music.
Tickets for the opening event could be bought online from the Ticketstream network, as well as from Bansko’s bigger hotels. The other events would be free of charge.
Albena and Maxim Dance One More Year
The World Champions in Figure Skating Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski have announced officially that they will dance on the ice for one more year. They took this decision after a long hesitation. Their coaches Natalia Linichuk and Genadii Karponosov are convinced that the Bulgarian couple is an absolute leader at the moment - the figure skaters have a huge potential and the vigour to compete for four more years. Bansko - Hit Resort in Summer As Well
Bansko, western Bulgaria, the paradise of winter sports fans is ready to welcome tourists in the summer too, the Independent published yesterday. About 3000 British citizens have bought real estates in the resort town since 2003. They have been attracted by Bansko’s reputation as a leading Central European ski centre. The town is the 2014 Winter Olympics applicant. It boasts of 64-km-long ski runs. Eight percent of the foreigners who visit Bansko are from Britain and Ireland.
IOC Turns down Sofia Candidature

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) turned down Sofia candidature to host Winter Olympic Games for a third time. Yesterday, at 02:07 p.m. sharp, the President of IOC Jacques Rogge announced in Lausanne, Switzerland, that PyeonChang (Korea), Sochi (Russia) and Salzburg (Austria) go through till IOC final session in Guatemala in the summer of 2007.
The decision on which cities should go through in the competition was reached by the 15-member penal of the IOC Executive Committee after a 4-hour sitting. The opinion of the IOC Executive Committee was that the three cities to go hugely excel the rest of the cities. Sofia’s previous candidatures to host Olympic Games were in 1992 and 1994. (more…)
